North Somerset Mental Health Services and Organisations – Service Updates

24/7 Support and Connect
A new NHS, free, confidential 24/7 helpline has launched. This line is staffed by experienced counsellors, who you can talk to and they will listen. They will offer emotional support and can connect you to organisations available in Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). The helpline is for people aged 18 and over who are living within BNSSG or are registered with a GP within BNSSG.

Alzheimer’s Society
Alzheimer’s Society Group workers are providing support by telephone, and working from home. The Volunteer Companion Team are providing further support by phone to provide company and ease isolation. Singing for the Brain staff have developed an online session for service users. The Dementia Connect support line is available on 0333 150 3456 (national helpline). The local helpline number is 0300 1234 589.
Aware North Somerset
Aware raise awareness of mental health by running events and activities. You can see the details of upcoming events here.
The team have also set up a Facebook support group, which can be accessed here.
Carers Support Alliance
The Alliance provides a wide range of community-based support for unpaid carers, including brief intervention, information and advice and signposting when needed. Currently this is via telephone or video calls. The team also have a specific Employment Support Coordinator who can provide carers with on-going support for volunteering, training, education or employment. Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (‘CAMHS’) North Somerset
The North Somerset CAMHS service transferred to AWP on 1 April 2020. Call 0300 125 6700 or email awp.nscamhs[@]nhs.net.
Cintre
Community groups and activities are temporarily halted, including those taking place at Cintre Point, Weston-super-Mare. The team offering support via telephone or online where possible. Click here for more information.
Cruse Bereavement (Bristol and district, including North Somerset)
Cruse’s national helpline remains open as normal, available every day of the week (with extended hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, when the helpline is open until 8pm). The number is 0808 808 1677. For more information, click here.

Promotes positive ways of dealing with bad days and raises awareness of depression and self-harm in young people. Click here to visit their website.
Hope Project (Second Step)
The Hope Project provides short-term emotional and practical support for men aged between 30 and 64, specifically those who are in psychological distress or have recently self-harmed, but are not currently using other mental health services. Currently, the Hope Project is offering face-to-face support and/or telephone support as required, based on need. Please call 0117 428 8930 for more information. Mental Health Awareness Portishead (Rethink)
MHAP offer a friendly, welcoming space for carers who are supporting the wellbeing and mental health of young people.
The group runs on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month between 8pm and 9.30pm at the Redcliffe Bay Methodist Church.

Mental Health Employment Service
This service provides support to find or stay in work. If you’re experiencing a mental health problem, the team can support you to stay in work. They also work with employers to raise their awareness about mental health in the workplace and what they can do to support their employees. Somewhere to Go Weston-super-Mare
Somewhere to Go is a support centre providing day and night services to help rough sleepers and disadvantaged and vulnerable adults. The centre reopened on Monday 3rd August at 10.30am, and remains open at 10.30am every day after this. The team can accommodate approximately 20 at a time on first come first served basis. Wanted not Wasted
Wanted not Wasted is a free counselling service for children and young adults aged 5-18 who live in Weston-super-Mare. The team are continuing their counselling and mentoring services where staff are available, and children have requested it. Their drop in groups are also up and running again at the WOW shop. Wellspring Counselling
The Wellbeing Practitioners at Wellspring Counselling are offering free wellbeing support to children and young people (aged 11 to 18) during the COVID-19 outbreak. All Wellspring sessions will be via telephone or online for the time being. The team are current offering the following free services:
- 1:1 wellbeing support, suitable for young people struggling with mild difficulties with their wellbeing / mental health. Up to 6 weekly sessions to discuss self-help strategies to boost wellbeing.
- Sessions for parents of younger children (aged 5-12) experiencing mild-moderate anxiety. Parents will be allocated a Wellbeing Practitioner who will guide them through a self-help book to learn CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) strategies to manage their child’s anxiety.
- Sessions for parents of younger children (aged 5-12) experiencing mild difficulties with behaviour. Parents will be allocated a Wellbeing Practitioner who will support them to implement strategies which increase positive behaviour and reduce negative behaviour.
- Online workshops during the summer holidays for 11-18 year olds. The workshops last for 1 hour and focus on recognising and improving problems with mood, sleep and anxiety.

- Mondays: 1.30 – 4.30pm
- Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays: 9.30am – 4.30pm
